This event is presented by Illinois Humanities partner, HotHouse, the Center for International Exhibition and Performance.
Acclaimed multi-instrumentalist, composer and bandleader Craig Harris has played alongside the contemporary jazz world's most iconic voices. His multimedia symphony Brown Butterfly focuses on another American icon: Muhammad Ali.
Harris and his septet present an operatic portrait of The Greatest with movements devoted to Ali's bouts with Joe Frazier and Sonny Liston, his association with Malcolm X and The Nation of Islam, and his final fight against Parkinson's. Brown Butterfly will be performed in the main concert hall of the Logan Center for the Arts in Chicago.
